Dartmoor Survival Knife
The survival knife designed to get attention,
and to get the job done
UNRELEASED WILKINSON SWORD VERSION
IN STEEL FINISH
with WILKINSON SWORD LOGO
This version of the Wilkinson Sword CSK185 Dartmoor Knife was never released to the public. It is in steel finish.
We are unsure why this version was produced. It was clearly made intentionally, as the Wilkinson Sword logo has been laser-engraved on the blade.Since the engraving process followed bead-blasting, this engraved but non-bead blasted CSK185 was evidently intentionally made with this finish. The steel finish versions were put away, never intended for release to the public. Then they came to us.
Your Dartmoor Knife comes with all original components and accessories, comprising of Scabbard, Belt Hanger, full Survival Kit and Tube/Compass, Instruction Book/Sleeve and Box (Foam Inserts and printed Sleeve). It is unused, with some minor scratches/scuffs on the blade and fingerguard from ‘shop-floor storage’, and it has never been home-sharpened or used in any way.
DESIGN AND SPECIFICATIONS
The Dartmoor Knife’s design and specification take into account weight and balance to provide a diversity of functions. The blade is hardened and tempered for optimum edge retention and toughness; the saw profile along the spine of the blade provides effective sawing or notching; and the spear-point allows for piercing and boring actions.
The Dartmoor comes with the Blade bevel ground in, and will require home-sharpening for a razor-sharp edge.We recommend Japanese waterstones, and we may provide guidance on how to do this, on request.

QUESTION & ANSWER
Q:In your description you mention that the knife does not have a bead blasted finish could you explain what this is and does this affect the knife in any way other than appearance thanks.
A:Hello, thanks for your Question. Bead-blasting gives metal surfaces a semi-smooth finish. It is purely aesthetic. The Dartmoor Blades are made from 440c Stainless Steel and hardened to 57-58 HRC.That these blades have not been bead-blasted has absolutely no effect on their performance. It’s just a type of finish.
HISTORY – WILKINSON SWORD DARTMOOR KNIFE CSK185
Wilkinson Sword began to manufacture the Mark I Dartmoor Knife in 1986.The knife was re-released as the CSK185 in early 2003 with updated alterations. This is the CSK185 Knife.
The primary design of your knife was much the same as the Mark I, keeping a similar profile and sporting a hollow handle enabling a small survival kit to be placed inside. However, the main difference was the blade; the original knife had many different small teeth sets allowing various methods of cutting. The blade was modified so that the blade was of full length and more practical and the saw on the back edge became efficient.
The CSK185 knife draws its look from the modern materials used in construction. These gave the knife a fashionable appearance and gimmicks were built in, eg, a small storage section was included in the scabbard body.
The newer scabbard was made reversible, allowing the knife to be attached and accessible in every way.The knife also has an adaptable belt hanger that allows for positioning on any strap mounting system for legs, torso, or arms.
All of these modifications were new to the knife market and therefore were a patentable idea.
Your Dartmoor Combination Survival Knife is designed to perform in the world's most demanding environments, from the tropics to the arctic. It’s engineered with functionality in mind – whether you’re felling, lopping, chopping, splitting, notching, cutting, drilling, shaving, hacking, carving, skinning... basically, whatever you need to do to survive.Your knife’s design draws directly on research, observation, and using testing in the field.
Your Dartmoor Knife was made by Wilkinson Sword at their specialist sword-making division, which produced swords and knives for the UK Ministry of Defence for supply to the Armed Forces. This same factory made the swords for the Household Cavalry.Sadly, in 2005, MOD awarded the contract overseas and the factory was forced to close.Twelve skilled craftsmen lost their jobs and another piece of British manufacturing history disappeared. When the factory closed, production of this knife ceased.
